Writers Explain That Big [SPOILER]’s Cameo In ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’

Spoiler alert: This Article Contains Major Spoilers For Solo: A Star Wars Story

Possibly the biggest shocker in Solo: A Star Wars Story was the unexpected cameo of Darth Maul, the major antagonist of The Phantom Menace. Maul’s cameo in the latest Star Wars anthology movie is gutsy.

Maul is one of the main recurring villains in the Star Wars franchise. He last appeared in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace back in 1999 where viewers saw the sith lord getting sliced in two by Obi-Wan Kenobi and falling down the reactor shaft.

Regarding this surprising cameo, co-writer Jonathan Kasdan said that he had been fighting for this sneaky process for all along. He admitted that he has always been a huge fan of Darth Maul and he was his favorite character in the prequel trilogy. Jonathan was determined that Dryden Vos does not end up at the top of the food chain as both of the co-writers wanted the criminal underworld to feel more prominent.

Co-writer Lawrence Kasdan stated that the greater theme is that everybody works for somebody. He added that good or bad, and nobody can control their destiny, which is extremely important for them.

Jonathan declared that everyone serves some higher God or are mastered by something. To that, Lawrence added that Maul works for someone. Jon said that Maul is a character burdened with baggage.

Some speculate that Maul’s cameo in Solo: A Star Wars Story means that there are more Solo movies to come.
